Gamefowl legend Biboy Enriquez and Supremo: A partnership that has endured for two decades

For 20 years, Leandro “Biboy” Enriquez – a legend in the Philippine gamefowl scene – has stayed with one brand when it comes to feeds and veterinary products.

“When I tried Supremo, I saw how it enhanced the body proportions and health of my stags and hens. So, I’ve stuck with it ever since,” he said.

He said breeders and cockfighting enthusiasts would come to him to buy a six-month-old gamefowl and would be surprised to see it nearly fully grown.

“They would always comment on how big the six-month old is, and I’d tell them that it’s because they’re healthy. Their bone density, size and shape are exceptional, thanks to Supremo,” he said.

Enriquez is head and owner of the famed Firebird Gamefarm in Tanay, Rizal.

His interest in gamefowls began when he was just seven years old.  That was when he saw his family’s driver grooming a gamecock.  The driver later took him to a gaming pit in La Loma, Manila.

“Since then, my interest in gamefowls and cockfighting never wavered,” he said.

By age 11, he already had his own gamecock that gave him his first ever win.  He then started breeding gamefowls in the family’s backyard.

But he had to tend to the family’s hotel business in his early adult years.  It wouldn’t be until the mid-1970s when he pivoted to breeding gamefowls from a hobby to a full-time career.

In 1971, he converted a one-hectare property his family owned into a breeding farm, where he raised over 100 stags.  When his stock doubled, he moved to Antipolo.  He stayed there for 14 years before the need to again expand brought him to Tanay.

An ancillary community of some 50 families has grown around this Tanay farm.  These are the people overseeing the breeding, care for the eggs, distribution of feeds, sales, security, and the health and conditioning of Firebird Gamefarm’s gamefowls.

Through the years, Enriquez has compiled an encyclopedic knowledge of the physical traits and breeding methods that will be ideal for stags and hens to produce prize-winning gamecocks.

He knows the medication, vaccines, nutrition and, most importantly, the conditioning methods needed to produce world champions.

Firebird Gamefarm, meanwhile, has state-of-the-art facilities in Tanay guarantee that Enriquez and the community he fosters will remain ahead of the game for many years to come.

The farm has incubators, as well as indoor brooders to provide a warm environment and proper ventilation for newly hatched chicks.

It has a free-range area to help gamefowls acclimatize to the weather, and where their potentials can be assessed.

It has fly pens to enhance a gamefowl’s flight capacity, as well as scratch pens for strengthening feet, legs and claws.

The farm also has a medical facility to head off illnesses.

His reputation and his formidable farm have ensured that Enriquez and the community he fosters will remain at the head of the pack for many years to come.

Enriquez said many other companies had asked him to endorse their brands precisely because of his reputation.

“But I put value in health, so I’m still now with Supremo,” he said.
