Universal Robina Corporation’s El Salvador Misamis Oriental plant (URC ESMO) heeds the call of the Environment Management Bureau Region 10 (EMB X) to turn waste into something useful.
Last June 25, 2021, URC ESMO donated 30 kilograms of shredded plastic laminates in support of “Sachet Mo, Palitan Ko”, a community pantry project of EMB X. The project will provide a food package consisting of basic goods/food, in exchange of a kilo of sachet or plastic laminates.

According to Reynaldo Digamo, the Regional Director of EMB X, this will give way for the success of the eco-bricks production project in Barangay Macabalan, using the collected plastics and laminates.
“This is an alternative way to collect the needed raw materials, at the same time communicate the value of waste segregation and recycling”, said Digamo during the turnover event held at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Compound, Barangay Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City.

URC ESMO donated the shredded plastic laminates to augment raw materials needed for the project. They are also in the talks with Pilipinas Shell Foundation for a possible sustainable partnership.
“We are one with the local government unit of Cagayan de Oro in protecting the environment,” said URC VisMin Cluster Head, Michael S. Estacio. “We will continue to support recycling and other waste management efforts. We hope that through these little ways, we would be able to help achieve a Zero-Waste Landfill in Cagayan de Oro City.”
Aside from their participation in the EMB X project, URC ESMO, donated a Compact Plastic Garbage Crusher and a Wrapper Storage Shed to the City Government of El Salvador. URC ESMO, in association with EMB X, also became one of the trusted stewards of Tambaling Creek in El Salvador City under the Adopt-an-Estero or Waterbody Program.
