Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) subsidiary in Thailand has notched two more awards for its URGreen initiative aimed at slashing its carbon footprint, as well as protecting the environment through conservation.

For a second year in a row, URC (Thailand) Co., Ltd.  was recognized by Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with a greenhouse gas reduction award.

This was after the company managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide in 2023 – equivalent to planting 833,333 trees – by turning to solar energy, recycling and waste segregation, and using organic waste for animal feed.

URC Thailand’s Factory No. 5 and Warehouse Raw Material 2 meanwhile, was granted by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization the privilege of using the Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) logo in recognition of its efforts to slash its greenhouse gas emissions.

“This year, URC once again shows its dedication to conducting business with consideration for people, communities, society and the environment,” said Tanant Suwanraks, Vice President and General Manager for Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.

Building on these awards, URC Thailand also launched its URGreen Upcycling Uniform initiative to raise awareness about global warming among its own employees.

This project encourages staff to collect water bottles for recycling into new uniforms, which are then showcased in an internal fashion show.

Employees from diverse backgrounds are selected as models to highlight inclusivity and equality within the company.

For 2025, URC Thailand plans to produce an additional 4,800 recycled uniforms from 67,000 bottles, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8,300 kilograms – equivalent to planting 700 trees.

“At URC, we believe in the power of collaboration. We have consistently instilled a sense of sustainability to the people, including our customers and employees, aiming to make the world a better place together,” said Tanant Suwanraks.

URC Thailand has also been winning awards for its products, apart from its environment-focused initiatives.

Two of its top-selling brands – Fun-O and Tivoli – have landed in the rarefied list of Asia’s most influential brands.

Fun-O and Tivoli topped the Biscuit and Wafer categories in the 2023 Top Influential Brands Awards handed out by Influential Brands Singapore.

The company has also been named as an “outstanding food manufacturer”, an award it first clinched in 2020.

Its Dewberry Puff Cake Orange, meanwhile, was cited as an “outstanding food product on the major use of local raw materials”.

In the Philippines, URC produces iconic brands such as Great Taste, C2 Cool & Clean, Piattos, Maxx candy and Cream-O cookies, which have been part of Filipinos’ lives for decades. One of the country’s largest food and beverage manufacturers, URC also has significant, and growing, presence in ASEAN. Its leading regional brands include Lexus, Tivoli and Fun-O.

For the second consecutive year, URC Thailand has received the reduction of greenhouse gas award (Low Emission Support Scheme: LESS), from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, administered by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization). The company’s commitment includes: generation of solar power, segregation of waste for recycling, and utilization of organic waste for animal feed.
